"...I created this little figure "Sacred Song," from photographs in my archive of snapshots of Plains and Pueblo girls I have taken over many years as a painter & sculptor.
With focused concentration, she's playing a Native wood flute perhaps rehearsing a song for a ceremonial dance or creating a new tune to play for her family...
Hand carved wooden flutes were once reserved just for Indian men, but now playing them has been adopted by Native American women..."
